Cometic MLS Head Gasket — Nissan SR20DE/DET, 86.5mm Bore, .051" (H1796SP1051S)

A multi-layer steel head gasket for the SR20, and the standard answer when the factory gasket becomes the weak link on a boosted build.

MLS provides maximum sealing performance and requires no sealants. Multiple layers of stainless steel give increased strength plus the ability to rebound and resist corrosion — that rebound is what keeps the seal alive through heat cycles instead of crushing once and staying crushed.

The outer layers are embossed and coated both sides with Viton, a fluoroelastomer rubber heat resistant to 250°C / 482°F, designed for harsh sealing environments, load conditions, and surface finishes. The center shim layer is uncoated stainless, and its thickness sets the compressed height.

No re-torque needed — the embossing design promotes an even clamp load across the sealing surface, which measurably reduces bore distortion.

Ideal for aluminum heads to aluminum blocks and aluminum heads to cast iron blocks, withstanding the shearing force created between two materials with different expansion rates.

Specs: 86.5mm bore, .051" (1.3mm) compressed thickness. Includes both additional oil holes — the S14 configuration.

Fitment: 1989-1998 Nissan 240SX with SR20DE/SR20DET swap, S13/S14/S15 Silvia. Also FWD SR20 applications.

Verify your oil hole configuration. Cometic makes this gasket both with and without the extra oil holes, and the S13 and S14 blocks differ. Ordering the wrong one is the most common mistake on this part.

Head studs are effectively required. An MLS gasket on stock head bolts under real boost is how people end up doing this job twice.
