GSC Power-Division Single Conical Valve Spring & Titanium Retainer Kit — Nissan GT-R VR38DETT, Race Only (5089)

The race-spec conical spring package for the VR38, built for engines that live at the extremes.

Conical springs are the front runners in valvetrain harmonic stability. The coil diameter tapers, which drops the spring's own mass and shifts its natural frequency away from the harmonics that cause surge. Less reciprocating mass and better resistance to resonance means the valvetrain stays controlled at RPM where a conventional round-wire spring starts to float — and float is what puts a valve into a piston.

The tapered geometry also lets the coils nest as they compress, giving more usable lift before coil bind.

Titanium retainers cut reciprocating mass further and reduce the load the spring has to control. GSC machines them CNC with tolerances and repeatability that keep seat pressure consistent across every valve in the head — uneven seat pressure across 24 valves is how one cylinder floats before the others.

Springs are nano peened and batched by seat pressure so the set is matched rather than assorted.

GSC designates this kit Race Only. That's not marketing — it means the spring pressures are chosen for an engine that spends its life near the limiter and under high boost. On a street-driven car those pressures accelerate valve seat and guide wear, and the milder conical kit is the better choice.

Fitment: Nissan GT-R R35, VR38DETT.

Do this while the heads are off. Springs and retainers are a head-apart job.

Verify your cam profile and boost target before ordering. A spring that doesn't suit the lobe either floats or coil binds, and both end the engine.
